Retro versus new - the aesthetics....

Just seen a newish XT chainset - all black and horrible.

What is it with the new stuff, it's all very dark and stealth, even the whole bikes? Whatever happened to fluoro, polished and painted....?

Or is it just me....

All new stuff looks alike (if it wasn't for decals)..

Never really been a fan of black components- cranks particularly. They show the rub marks and dings. Silver stays looking good for much longer.

That said; I do like the Campag Centour Black/Red on my road bike.

Black is the new black.. .and i like it. Carbon being black probably is resposible for a lot of it.

Fashions come and go, the austin princess, ford sierra and kawasaki z1 looked futuristic when they first came out but looked dated now.

Maybe worth starting a thread for retrobikes, pre 2000 that still look good today.
