Does anybody know what size axle should be on a 1992 bear valley?

One of my work colleagues has just emailed me telling me of a large crunching noise coming from the 'area where the pedals go through the frame'

I assume they would be the same throughout most of the steel range of that era but I cant find a spec for one and I could do with getting one ordered tonight for him.

With thanks

Re:

I'd ask him to measure, just to be sure.
Or try to take it out first, those old bb's can get stuck badly, enough topics here about that.
And check the crank type, so you order the right lenght.
Good luck.

Re:

Marin for me is the main one for stuck BB's, I reckon they did not grease the BB before it went in.
If it gets stuck, order a BBT - 32 which is shorter that the rest, and you are able to with washers bolt it too the bike using the crank bolt, it should come off.

Re:

Right, left you say?
LLL: left side turning left to loosen
RRL: right side turning right to loosen
Yep, you're right.

Always gets me that, usually have a random bottom bracket kicking around so I can think and nod to myself whilst working out which way to unscrew.
