Was out today (QECP red - surprisingly slick) and noticed a creaking from the front end when i stopped and checked I found this small scratch on my 98 Bomber Z2 BAMs

What should I do????

a - return on warranty (they havn't done more than 100 miles, I fitted them end of last year after they were sat in my loft since new!!! )

b - polish out with duraglit?

c - sell for spares/repair (240mm steerer anyone???) but then i need some other 1" forks.............

d - try and get another crown (anyone?????) but will they crack?

I'm only riding this bike for a while after this http://font7a.blogspot.co.uk/ happened at QECP last weekend. SID RLT uppers anyone????????

Re:

A) are you joking?

B) are you joking?

C/D) get another crown assembly, they may still be available new, but you could probably get one second hand.

to break that you must have done something to them, i have seen them break before but usually it's after a long time of hard use, or you overtightened the bolts.

any info on another crown would be handy.....

seriously cant think what might have happened to them? they've barely left the ground!!! serviced them but replaced bolts no tighter than when undone.....

IIRC, there was a recall on a number of Marzocchi crowns from that era. good luck on warranty replacement, since they typically only do a 2 year warranty, but Marzocchi does have good customer service. did you buy them from a lbs or off an individual? if lbs contact them first

I have a crown cracked in exactly the same place. Uneven tightening, it certainly wasn't tight either.

I got a new (used) crown from someone on here.

overtightening is the most likely cause.

the scratch is too deep to polish out, you would need someting like q-bond or jb weld to glue it together.*

* i am joking ofcourse, the crown is junk

People tend to overtighten them, not realising that there is designed to be a gap between the faces when torqued correctly. Getting the faces to touch usually destroys the crown.
