Zinn from ebay with issue's, but hey, still sweet!

Re: Zinn on ebay

At the risk of sounding even more smug, bikes with trashed drivetrains are unlikely to have mint frames.

it looks like it could be filled with brass or silver solder, but you have to know what you are doing with 753
It's in the centre of the top tube which is 0.5mm thick at that point, even more delicate than the ends! Looks too deep for a bit of car body filler too, it would probably sink and crack in no time.

Get on to the seller and get it into the hands of an expert pronto!

Point taken, but I've managed to destroy drive trains on bikes whilst keeping the frame in very good condition.
So it is possible  And why not if the description says, "condition is amazing"....?

I've messaged the seller, so now have to investigate repair costs, or if it's even possible. :?

Thanks again for the advice!

Re: Zinn on ebay

I wouldn't be happy with that either. Contact the seller get a refund partial or full. I repaint frames, and after blasting would fill that dent with car filler, heating that area and soldering/brazing isn't ideal and will only offer the peace of mind of knowing that metal (thick metal) is under the paint.

It would cost realistically £300 to blast frame, fill dent and repaint in two colours - laquer over the top in two pack. Colourtech are cheaper but they obviously aren't charging enough which is why they can't fullfil orders. I'm sure someone's uncle knows some where where it can be done for next to nothing though

In a nutshell try and get £300 refund. Come and see me (Gatwick area), I can show you a sample of work. Get Gil to make up the spray masks for logo's and I can do the work - if you like of course. :)

Best of luck

Re: Zinn on ebay

I've seen Woodsman's work, (on a bike that won a prize at last years Bespoked Bristol), and it's first class.

Rubbish.

Well I feel slightly vindicated after trying to point out signs of heavy wear, rather than hyping it up as "mint with a quick polish".

Always worth saving the pics to your machine and zooming in... Nobody pays for larger pics on eBay now

I'd say you're well within your rights to ask for "cashback" based on the description:

Stunning... The bike has had Very little use... Condition is amazing for its age... no sign of rust and the odd mark
The Campag is 1993 so maybe they changed colours for that year?

More Rubbish.

Campagnolo introduced it in 1992, it would have been available to the trade in late 1991 for the 1992 model year line up.

I knew about the heavy wear to the components, but that's really not an issue for me.
It's the dent that bothers me. Looking at the Ebay pictures again it looks like that side of the top tube was purposely excluded.

If the dent wasn't there I'd be ok with the purchase.

Mate i wouldnt get dispondant, as others have said it can be easily remedied with out it breaking the bank, and when you have finished you will have an even more satisfying sense of achievement.

Bad Form on the sellers part not to show the dent in the Pictures or mention it in his listing, and despite the sad comment
by the "SMUG EDUCATED IDIOT" i dont suppose either you or i did mind reading at school, and that is the tact i would take with the seller when demading a partial refund, and informing ebay with pics etc.

And i see no reason why ebay wont back this up with buyer protection. To my mind it is an open and shut case.

As for the comment suggesting a full refund. Given how few were made, it would be the last thing i would bloody do. God only knows when another in your size will show itself. However i would threaten you want a full refund, the seller would rather return a couple of hundred the the whole amount, if he hasnt spent it already.

IF it helps, and you have decided to fit your NOS parts, let me know and i will find a home for the old parts, which may also go someway to reducing the initial outlay.

If I paid a grand+ for a bike that was described as.... The bike has had Very little use,Condition is amazing for its age, There is no sign of rust and the odd mark.... and it turned up with a heavily dented top tube and worn out components, I'd be asking for a full refund!
What a joker

Agree 100% and could feel your dissapointment in the post telling us about the damage.

If it was mine I'd be asking for a full refund tbh. I know you can get it fixed but that means a repair and respray so it'll no longer be original. Not everyone thinks the same as me but refurbs, however well done and however close to what went before are simply not the same as the bike that came out of the shop bitd.

You thought you were getting something different to what you got. If I was in your position (and I've had similar experiances) the whole magic would be spoiled. I feel gutted for you mate.

You certainly have a point.

But i would look at it differently, and possibly a blessing in disguise to be honest.

You get it.... in the end after claiming a partial refund, for perhaps £800. You can ride it for another 20 years as is, or spend the money saved on refinishing it to shopfloor new standard and i reckon indistingubile from NEW.

Either option you still have a period correct 753 Rare bike that you can ride.
