Zaskar Update

seems a decent spec TBH, maybe change over too xt/xtr if your fussy on the drivetrain, any 80mm travel fork will do the job, just remember, you buy more if you buy retro

Would one of the newer budget forks like a set of recons or darts be an improvement over the manitous?

I have a set of recons on my Kula, wouldn't call them budget really (Dart and Tora are budget) they are mid range XC IMO, anyhoo they are a massive step up from a set of Manitou SX Carbons that I have would they suit a Zaskar? I have no idea.

Carl.

Update

So I have been busy doing some stuff to the bike and it now has new stem, bars, brakes, forks and wheels. This is how it looks now

I also have the bug and purchased a Tempest frame to build up. Very addictive hobby :)

that looks pretty cool. very beefy. how does it ride with such a short stem though? i was running 120mm on mine and found it way to short, it was hard to control at low speed and tech climbing etc. i run 130mm now, 0 degree. like the disc brake converison, thats a great mod. i have to say though, i reckon i could camp in your saddle bag :). nice bike man, nice bike.

That really shows the adaptability of mid-nineties GT's. It looks solid.

I'd probably get the rear brake cable tucked away though with some cable ties, before you snag it (unless you haven't sorted it already, of course).

Thanks guys, still a work in progress hence the cables and I have not ridden it with the new bars and stem so handling remains to be seen. The saddle bag is crazy big Lol. I used to always like to have plenty of spares and tools :)

its good to be prepared, and to be able to ride home, thats for sure!

+1

I'm not one to jinx myself with not taking the tools out for that little spin that ends with a loose bottom bracket, a crank arm falling off, 5 punctures and gears that sound like you've replaced them with a bucket of gravel. Before your chain snaps. In the rain.

Of course it might just be my preparational skills! :D
