Zaskar LE

yes, but ''... I paid a gazzillion pounds back in 1862...''

conversation in bike shop:

manager: still got that crappy GT?

mechanic: yer

Manager: still got those crappy threaded quadras that nobody wants?

Mechanic: yer

Manager: still got all that gawdawful LX stuff and that Zoom stem off that knackered Boss lying around?

Mechanic: yer

Manager: stick it all together, some ****ker will ****ing well give us a **** load of ****ing cash strapped to a ****key for it.

Mechanic: yer, but, er, wont some snobby ponce in the future deride the use of inferior forks and, to be frank (although my name is actually Dave) woefully outmoded method of the threaded headset via a futuristic sounding 'online discussion forum'? Especially when GT themselves had already been equipping their bikes with the highly successfull and vastly suprior 'ahead' system?

Manager: Dave

Mechanic: Yer?

Manager: shut up you *****ing weak escuse for a ******.....

Guys...hope you don't mind me joining in on this...I am the seller of the Zaskar LE under discussion.

Just wanted to say thanks for the tips you've given here and via email. So I have included postage and revised the price downwards as suggested. There is substantial interest in the bike. Which is a surprise to me to say the least - my local bike shop mentioned the retro scene and that there would be a market for old kit.

In response to some of the comments...The bike has not appeared on eBay before. A quick check of my eBay feedback will show I have never even sold any bike related pieces at all. The bike is entirely honest - that is the bike I bought with the components on it.

Now, whilst I can have a laugh at most things I think Big Cheese's latter comments reveal more about his own smugness and kit snobbery than anything else. So he doesn't rate the bike...tough. The implication that I have concocted a frankenbike with the purpose of ripping people off is something I take issue with strongly. Mind you, I should remember the old adage of not listening to a***holes who affect french usernames but can't spell them properly.

It is a lovely frame , which has been fitted with not so good parts to say the least . and yes it was probably done by the shopkeeper to get rid of some parts lying around .

It doesnt mean you are trying to rip people off !!!!
It means somebody needs to buy this bike and re build it properly .

Then I have seen three for sale in the last year  . I love the Zaskar LE frames of this vintage. Never remember seeing one this colour BITD, just the red & ink blue ones. T'is a cool colour though. (It's just I had an ink blue one so that's the one I'd want.).

Oh......and I don't think it's a bad spec. but the frame does deserve better. 8)

Good luck with the sale.

Of course I accept your expertise completely re the componentry...I suppose one can go to the nth degree to refit more appropriate kit and if that is someone's aim then good luck to them. I have really enjoyed the bike - it's got me around and about with a smile. Hopefully the next owner will enjoy it in health and with whatever components.

I can accept too Big Cheese's "scenario" in a different light...however, dialogue writer he ain't,

I am sure you have enjoyed it , I have had 3 Zaskars and all of them were great rides .
your frame colour is not common .

good luck with the sale .

Oh for crying out loud - there are some humourless f@ckwits about...

If you reread my responses - there are NO implications that I said you personally put a frankenbike together - I was actually having a dig at the shop 'specials' that have been slung together over the years without much thought -

If you re-reread my posts, you'll also see that I was actually self-deprecating to avoid being arrogant or pompous:

''...Mechanic: yer, but, er, wont some snobby ponce (the BIG F*&^ING CHEESE) in the future deride the use of inferior forks and, to be frank (although my name is actually Dave) woefully outmoded method of the threaded headset via a futuristic sounding 'online discussion forum'? As for mocking my old MSN username AND calling me an asshole - whats that going to do? Make me go ''...so sorry for adding 'E'... oh how I bow down to your vastly suprior intellect...''

God sakes.... :?

what an absolute *&%&**^ wit and me, for bloody biting in the first place - now I've gone and pissed the wifey off for being grumpy

)*(&^^&er! (&^*%^$% with a ^%$£&%$ and a (&(&*(%^$%$ whilst poking a stick....

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGHHHH!!

Loving this thread. I'm not sure if I'm more amused by 'legrandefromage' and his derision of a quill stem on a site that is supposed to be all about 'retro' bikes, or 'bythesea' and his eloquent retort.

For what its worth, I think that an American built 16" Zaskar LE in good condition is worth £200 of anyones money just for the frame.

Nothing wrong with the quill system - just not on suspension forks/ bike sold as 'new' in 1995
