Zaskar LE GT All Terra Upgrade

Hi guys,
I'm looking for an upgrade for my dad. He gave me his Zaskar LE approximately a year ago, it has XTR M900 parts. I was wondering if there was a suitable upgrade for him for around £600, doesn't matter if its used. He is currently looking at some cube mountain bikes, and likes colourful ones. Would any bike in the price range have better parts than XTR M900?

The question kind of depends on your viewpoint. A lot of people (in this section particularly) will say that by spending £600 on a modern bike you will not be 'upgrading' from a M900 equipped Zaskar - you're merely modernising (and probably downgrading). In terms of technical progress made in the last 20+ years then of course you will be getting disc brakes, more gears and various other bells and whistles but in my opinion the parts you get on a modern £600 bike will be nowhere near the build quality of M900 and probably won't work as well or last as long either.

As to what would be a good bike for the budget then you're probably better off asking in the post 1997 forum
