Looks like it is a zaskar but i haven't seen that colour before. It looks like it might just be a burnished frame that someone has painted later.

Im thinking the same, im hoping the GT guys on here can verify the originality of the dodgy yellow peeling paintwork lol

the frame number is stamped on the outside of the rear drop-out = zaskar

looks like a poor paint job to be flaking off like that so i'd say not original paint 8)

so next question...
will it be ok to strip and retain the ball burnished finish?
if so best stuff and methods to use please?? cheers

that guy 12-28 buys and breaks bikes and deals exclusively pretty much with retro bits and has sold at least 2 other zaskars that i'm aware of. so he should know it is a zaskar, was there a difference between just a plain zaskar and an le frame at that time, i know there was later?

I would be asking why would you paint a lovely shiney frame a nasty yellow, and what is that paint hiding coz zaskars do dint and dent easy, but then im a born cynic

im sure i heard somewhere that at some point the LE's used differently butted tubes to the zaskars to make them even lighter but that you could only tell from cutting them in two or something, so really it is only the sticker that makes it an LE at this point then.

the zaskar i owned for a short while came badged as an le, but the majority xt groupo that came with it marked it as a plain old zaskar

i have been asking questions along those lines, and he is confident about the ball burnished finish underneath. He has sold lots of retro parts and a few frames with good feedback.

I agree though why would you do a crappy paint job on a nice frame, i guess if i won it and after inspection found dents or cracks, i can send back for a refund, paypal covers you in the event of a not so honest description....

Its got to be worth a punt i guess... 8)
