Spotted on flea bay as an abused donkey with no front legs. Rust everywhere, included the possible need for a seat tube exchange.

In true Mike Brewer style, I rescue the stead in February 2017:
Twas I'. I knew it most likely had a 'seat tube inspection window' (rust hole) and it did, but good sense left me leading me to save it. Happily, Eddy is already at a frame builder (Lee Cooper, Coventry) for repair and paint. That said I've asked him to take his time as I'll need to be paid first!
The pile of debris with it revealed some gems; notably a pair of unused but soiled Mavic 517 rims, a tidy rear XT hub on 231 (making a pair with a front I had hanging from the garage ceiling) and 2/3'rds of a King headset.
So I'm chuffed, but expecting a long haul on this one. Anyone got a silver bearing head cap in pewter? Plus I've got a bunch of tyres and an XTR chainset and BB for sale or swops - '97 vintage rigid or sus' fork anyone? Peace and love, H.

A bit of an update for you: another Yo lives! I've returned back from Lee Cooper (Coventry frame builder) with Yo in hand. Firstly, he has done a great job of cutting out the decayed seat tube and putting a new one in. I've since confirmed the frame as made in 1998. Sadly, a new BOI fork is beyond my purse.
Now one for the Fat fans - what size axle to crown fork should I buy? IIRC I think it should be 420mm for a rigid fork, or have 60mm travel for a suspension fork. Please let me know if I'm on the right lines and whether you might have a fork that could work.

Lee has done a fantastic job of the seat tube and paint. Sadly the new tube has a different OD than the original and whilst its fancy Columbus steel, it takes me over two months to source a super rare sized clamp to fit. Lee and I nearly consider swapping the tube out; common sense, patience and a little luck prevails. DKG fitted one of the last few in this size - few!

A test fit of the Pace RC forks, which have been carefully hoarded and revamped by Fork English, reveal a noodly front end not suitable to my ‘shire’ proportions. It’s now that I remembered that they didn’t work for me back in 1997. It’s now that personal circumstances put the build on the back burner, or rather a hook on the garage ceiling. After a two year spell, I fall under Eddy’s gaze and re-engage with the build. The Pace forks are sold on and I make my way to the most patient torch weilder in Warwickshire armed with this question. ‘Lee I’d like some forks to match the frame please’. Again these forums are engaged and specs, Campag dropouts and the correct tubing is sourced. Lee as usual supplies the goods; people look him up if you need work done. His work is second to none and he’s a top chap too (search Lee Cooper bicycle frames on google). They’re painted and sadly my job goes t**s up.

April 2020: I’m out the other side and almost a ‘whole’ person again, if not a little bruised around the edges. Time to get Eddy on the trails, but shock horror the down tube decal is applied only to one side. I keep my powder dry and don’t panic, they must be around somewhere... many months pass by...

My ‘mitten’ like dexterity mean I approach Mark at Giant Leamington to apply the decals and ‘button up’ the rest of it. Now Eddy is together once more. Those hoarded bits, sourced through fleabay, car boots and from here adorn the frame superbly. I can report he rides like a dream; telepathic they say? Well, he makes sense of my rider input and belies his intervening and my advancing years. I’m chuffed with the outcome; now I need to put some miles in to work out where I cut the steerer tube.
