Yeti F.R.O

We’re off and running for the build :D

My wife is away and I can’t have the dogs in the workshop with me, the patio is a no go zone due to a fledgling being cared for by it’s mother at low level having fallen out of its nest in the eaves, so I had no choice but to do the build in the lounge!

Headset and new fork installed so I can use my preferred work stand;

Fairly straight forward build to start with, popping the stem in to place - but bugger me it’s a tight fit now that it’s been painted. If I want it any lower than that I going to have to either sand the paint off, or file the inside of the steerer tube…I’m not looking forward to either of those tasks.

Next up was an also challenging part, one I’ve had before, a Bullseye Roller Bracket, same as installed on my Ultimate. Bit of a fiddle to set up because you position the axle based on the chain line you want - which if you haven’t got any running gear installed makes the installation a bit of a guess! I can refine this later if needed. And no point filling it with oil until I know it’s in the right place.

On then to the bars - black Hyperlites. Needed to use the old penny trick to open up the clamp bolt in order to avoid damaging the etching.

Next to throw some parts at it, M734 cantilevers, a NOS DX post, then the M732 front and rear mechs and 1992 Flite Titanium that it came with. Oh and some black bottle cage bolts.

Last job of the day was to prep the wheels. These have taken some getting! NOS 36H Mavic M231CD rims, Bullseye hubs, Ringle skewers, Sachs freewheel, and tan wall Porcupines.

That’s it for now! Should be largely finished tomorrow save for a few aesthetic parts I’ll change in due course

First job of the day - replace one of the inner tubes as it has deflated over night, it was an old tube with a repair and I took a chance on it being ok - it wasn’t 🤦‍♂️

The build continues…
Classic combination of XT M732 thumbies and M733 brake levers.

Yeti grips, because it’s a Yeti.

Then it was on to the tiresome chore of cabling up - using ferrules as required by Yeti build sheet, and the brakes the US way around.

Pause for lunch and to watch the Grand Prix 😋🏎️🏎️

Perfect.

Can't wait to vote for it next month! ;)

It took me a second to figure out what looked so different from the usual Yeti builds...

The Flite!

Feels like you usually find a Turbo on a FRO.

(A perforated black one would have been a nice option!)

But it looks great as it is, I think!
