WTD: Hardtail mtb - decent spec but older?

Hi,

I want to give cyclocross a go this winter, and will consider buying an mtb to use for it.

I want something that is as light as possible, good working order, dont mind how old it is or what forks it has as I'll probably put rigid forks on it anyway.

To give you an idea of what I'm after, my Dad has a Orange MTB from about 1994 with XT kit, but some hopeless forks. Its light and works well. Shame he's going to be using it.

I'm 5'8" and think something aroun 16-17" would be perfect?

Based in Plymouth so the closer the better!

Anyone got anything?

PS. I hate posting in the for sale / wanted section with my first post, but I've been diverted here from:

Hi i have a 93 khs montana pro. Running period xt groupset. True temper frame, campag/xt wheels and early rock shox. With lighter tyres and rigid fork you'll be looking at about 23lbs. Frame is 16 inch. Looking for 350 posted

might be worth mentioning a bidget. there's plenty of people on here with lots of parts who could build a bike to a budget

Thanks for replies.

I'm looking to spend about £200, and would prefer something local if possible?

Happy to buy a box of bits and assemble it myself if thats the way it will come!
