I think if a standard rear mech should be OK - try it and see is probably the best way to find out. I run a standard 53-39 with either a 13-16 or 13-29 at the back, campag 10 speed, short cage rear mech, and it works absolutely fine. With a 52-36 there's more difference between the front rings so you might need to use a longer cage mech, but I'd try it (carefully) and see before buying one.
If you have 34-50 and 12-29 now, and want to go to 36-52, then changing the cassette to an 11-26 instead of changing the rings would give you almost the same ratios as the the change in rings would. The only downside to that is that you might find yourself cross-chaining from the small ring to 11/12/13 sprockets more than you'd like.
