I took my cat Michah to the vet this morning and had to make the one decision nobody likes to make.
I've had some tough times in the mid-to-late 00's and she stopped me from doing foolish things on a number of occasions. Always there at the right moment, comforting me, loving me, demanding my attention, whatever it took to take my mind off the bad things.
My best friend for 12.5 years. RIP Michah
One of her last pics, taken 3 weeks ago.
At that point I had just switched her from dry food to wet food to stop her from throwing up. She had pancreatic problems ever since she was 4 or 5, so throwing up a lot despite prescription food was no real cause for concern. A temporary change of diet usually helped. This time though it was the big C that caused the problem, so the change of diet only made her feel less miserable for a while.
It was only when she crawled into a dark corner on Friday evening that I got worried, and when she was barely able to stand on Sunday I kinda knew I had to prepare for the worst. The vet's words still came as a shock though.
Not sure how to go on now, but I guess Yuna, my other cat, needs me more than ever. She's currently walking around the house looking for Michah. It's going to be weird for a while.
If any cat owners have tips on how to deal with that, feel free to tell me. Yuna always had a problem with being alone and it's obvious she already misses Michah even though they never were best friends.
