Hi Steve, you can find a 1969 cat at http://veterancycleclublibrary.org.uk/n ... brary).pdf different paint, but the bikes are the same. Sun have a rich history, it was on the slide at this time ( part of the Ralaigh group from 1960 onwards ) its peak was mid 30's to early 50's. Terry
Brilliant info guys, after studying and going all over the web. It looks like a total mixture haha.
It has the cog off of snipe plus (tick), not the same italic decals (cross) shown and does not say snipe plus on the down bar(cross) just a repeat of the word sun.
It has the choice Red (so there is a tick) and the "paneling edged with sun chequer band transfer" another (tick)
The decals look more like the "chris barber t.r." (i.e. chequered flags and the type of font the word "Sun" is written in, apart from the top rail where it just has sun.
This is all good stuff guys, i really appreciate it.
Chaps,
Have a close look at the decals.. up until 1970, I seem to recall, the decals were Italic script but then they changed to the fashionable at the time block printing. Additionally at about this time, Weinmann Centre Pull pretty much replaced side pull as being the popular spec. I think the machine is early 70s.. and sorry to disappoint but I am pretty sure it is not a Chris Barber team replica frame. The chainset was standard on the lower end of the range.
Happy restoring... HLloyd has some of the decals.
Chris
