Windows 7 - worth it?

Windows 7 is by far superior to Vista i would advise doing a clean install as opposed to an upgrade if you back all important data up you can put back at a later date the full install as opposed to the upgrade gives you the benefit that you wont have any issues that Vista had lurking in the background pottentially waiting to cause an issue.

If you know anyone who is a student they can get it from a student software supplier they are usually only upgrade versions though also some places will give discount to likes of NHS staff or other public service workers so if you know anyone in these areas may be worth asking them.

Alternitivly its online overclockers.co.uk sometimes do a sale on windows on the weekly offers

Windows 7 offers XP and slightly better speeds but uses more ram.

Turn off the Windows search service and superfetch and you'll have a swift system. 1.5x quicker than Vista.

Just to complete the set of opinions... I would say don't bother forking out for 7. Yes, Vista had quite a few iffy bits when released, but sorry... Windows 7 is not really a significantly different OS. It's essentially Vista, with one or two updated subsystems, a few default settings done differently and a name as different as possible to try and distance the two in people's minds.

Vista with all the service packs etc installed shouldn't be troublesome and Windows 7 is extremely unlikely to give you anything significant extra for your money.

I mean, when I briefly looked for an actual list of differences online, one of the top seven mentioned was that the boot screen animation was better!

Save your cash and if you must spend it on PC stuff, put it towards your next one :)
