You paid what you thought they were worth because you like them

As to overpaying, I've yet to meet anyone who hasn't paid a tad too much for that something special

exactly !

apart from Russell ofcourse !

Depends how it's sent..

I got my Fat over here for $55 as it was sent as a gift and an incomplete bike also it was labeled under it's value by about $600..

So it all depends how it was sent and the forms were filled out.

If you can get the sender to mark them up as a commercial sample, nor for resale, you should not get charged anything at all.

It does vary, Ive had three things without charge, if the seller can mark the value less, this will reduce the import duty.(in doing so you would also reduce the insurance value if damaged or lost !)

But be warned, border control are not stupid, so don't take the p*ss or they will want prove of how much you paid for the items, old or new .

good luck and let us know how much the charges were for

To quote HMRC;

"All other goods

If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you:

don't have to pay Excise Duty
may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
will have to pay Import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £18

Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under."

And...

"To qualify as a gift:

It must have been sent from a private person outside the EU to a private person(s) in the UK.
The Customs Declaration must be completed correctly (see link below).
It must be for the use of either you or your family.
There must be no commercial or trade element and it must not have been paid for by the recipient either directly or indirectly.
It must be of an occasional nature only - for example for a birthday or anniversary."

I have bought two spring kits from 'Wings' that cost over $100 inc. shipping and got stiffed on both, but the spring only packages snuck through - all came via US Mail Flat Post, or whatever they call it?

Something of this value will more than likely catch someones eye - and many sellers simply will not undervalue due to the insurance issues.

However, when I buy Hi-Fi components from the Far East they usually arrive packed in jewellery boxes with ribbon round them marked as a 'Gift!'

magura's are being shipped today so will let you all know of any charges when they arrive, my new worry is that they think the blood is pcp :D

they were sent on 29th july, still not arrived, just checked the tracking and found this

Payment of charges - Item being held, addressee being notified

that was on August 10, anyone know what will happen now ? how are you notified ? how long am i likely gonna have to wait now ?

Dont panic too much , my last frame took three weeks to get it due to customs.

What you can do if phone parcelforce hub if you have the tracking number ,they may not be able to help but they gave me the number for customs and after three days of trying i managed to speak to someone and get it resolved

if they are contacting you, they may not agree with the value of the package

good luck
