Why would you use anything other than thumbies?

I have STIs on my road bike, 9 speed thumbies on my Giant Trance, and 7 speed RF+ on the Breezer. For the road bike it's a no-brainer - STI is miles better, but for MTBs I can't make my mind up.

By thumbies, I assume you mean Paul's Thumbies?

If you are referring to the Shimano/Suntour period correct variety...those are thumb shifters.

Yeah, but Shimano 'Thumb Shifters' were around and lovingly referred to as 'Thumbies' long before the Pauls things. Weren't they?

Anyhow, I've used rapidfire, gripshift and thumbies (:)), all this week in fatc, and I have to say that I prefer RF.

They may have been...but we never referred to them as 'thumbies' back in the day.

(which isn't to say they weren't referred to that back then)

I'm mostly just giving you guys a hard time. :D

it's cause you speak "american". 8)

I thought 'thumbies' :D were the dogs. I was NEVER going to swap to RF, not ever!

I then had to move on ('coz bikes had) so I chose Sach (SP?) Wavey shifters, 'cos they were cheaper (and lasted longer) than grip shift and if I couldn't stick with thumbies, I was dammed if I was going to have any of that rapid fire shite! I quite liked the Wavey shifters  so thing's weren't all bad.

Then eventually I got a bike with XT sti thingies. (I've still got it).

You know what??

I was a complete plank for not moving on to RF way back when, they're the best shifters I've ever used.

Still not convinced by these wiggle the brake lever jobs though, they look utter rubbish!

(Here we go again! :D )

Having tried them all including the all in one brake lever jobs, my vote goes to
Rapidfire, can't see how to improve on it really
