Why do I prefer larger frames?

What’s your saddle heights? That would be interesting to know. Mine are are all 30.5 inches top of saddle to crank centre

30" crank centre to saddle top is most comfortable for me/my back. I can sit higher (probably 31") though and still reach the road with the ball of my foot, but that tends to play merry hell with my back, but perhaps thats more to do with where the bars are.

Re:

My saddle-crank distance must be less, as I barely have 30' of inside leg. If I had to take a guess I would say somewhere between 29' and 29'5

If youve got a 30" inside leg, then you wouldnt reach the floor
(if your saddle top to crank centre was 29.5")

Mine are mostly about the 0,833 lemond level, so 67-68 cm saddle height 81cm inside leg.

Never mind reaching the floor (i can't on some of my bikes) wouldn't be able to reach the pedals. (and there is no way those bikes have saddle to crank centre of anything like 30")

Re:

interesting thread.

I bought my winter bike frame off here, but I always thought it was possibly a size too big - when set up, it looks quite old-school .. not that much seatpin out with a horizontal top tube, but I've kept on using it anyway. Having had a good summer, I've not used that bike since spring.

this summer I somehow never managed to build up my best carbon bike - a combination of laziness and to see if I actually needed a carbon bike. The bike I rode was an aluminium job. It looks good, very modern racy style with lots of seatpin and a long stem. I've been riding this bike all summer and while its nothing special, it's been ok.

Anyway, yesterday I got the (big) winterbike out to see all is ok for what promises to be a wet Saturday. I was amazed to find how much I liked the slightly big size with a shortish stem. It felt really stable without being sluggish. Think ive learned a lesson here. For future, i'll lean towards 55/56 cm instead of 53/54.

PeachyPM I'm also 6ft 1" with inside leg of 34....i cant seem to find a road bike that fits. Always end up with the saddle way higher than the bars, and then i get bad back.
Im gonna try a 25" frame (if i can find one) and see if that works.
I did alwaus wonder about a larger frame, so the seats set down as far as it'll go and with the larger head, the bars will end up slightly higher?

When you say way higher, how higher are you talking about?

Way higher to me lol. Probably standard to other people. Erm...say the bars are 4" lower than the saddle?
I want the bars to be maybe 1 or 2" higher than the saddle. That way, when i use the drops, im not straining my neck, wrists and my lower back wont be hurting.

I have kept going back to road bikes, again and again, always finding it too uncomfortable. Deciding to give up, considering getting rid of the road bikes, so i out them away for like 6 months and then i decide to give it another go lol.
