Why buy amazon vouchers on ebay for more than face value?

I earned some amazon vouchers through my credit card, but really wanted to turn them into cash so I put them up on Ebay as e-vouchers with the intention of sending the code when paid.

As have other e-vouchers I have seen, these have gone for more than face value. One £20 one went for £27.59 even

Great. But.... now I read that some people pay then say they never received the code and then want money back and because there's no proof of posting they get a refund from paypal. I'm worried now.

I sent the codes via ebay messaging so at least there's proof there and if they can read emails to make a claim they can read email to get voucher... you'd hope that would make sense.

Anyway, not an issue at present as they've paid and all quiet on the western front. Buyers seemed to have reasonably good feedback and their addresses were supplied, so I could always send via snail mail if worst comes to the worst.

I understand also there are innocent reasons - people without credit cards for example.

Anybody any experience of this?

could be hijacked account .

happened to me for some alton tower vouchers . they went for a massive amount , sent them recorded , but lost out . ebay and paypal did not want to know .

I've always wondered about the vouchers on ebay, people paying more than face value. I know on most forums that you can pickup amazon vouchers for about 80-90% of face value which makes sense because the buyer gets stuff off amazon for 10% less...but why anyone would buy a voucher for more than face value is beyond me.

Paypal always sides with the 'customer' but you might be in luck with it being an E-voucher because i think they don't cover the buyer for electronic vouchers...or they didn't in the past.

Certainly there was a bit of an epidemic of people selling E products and just taking the cash then disappearing never supplying the item...to the point where its now hard to list virtual items on ebay without having a listing pulled.

I buy xbox live codes from ebay and never had a problem. They are cheaper than getting it from microsoft. I get the code sent in email but i think you can also get them to send you the card if necessary.

although nothing has gone wrong yet, I'm really suspicious. I rang ebay and paypal and they're washing their hands of it - even though fraud is being committed (should they turn out to be hijacked accounts).

just waiting for the money to go from my paypal account

Transfer it out of there a bit sharpish, mate!

Although, I suppose your account is probably 'verified', like most of us on here so they could potentially reclaim the money from your linked account...? Trouble with ebay (and any place where people buy and sell online, even here sometimes :() you will always get those who will regularly make a claim that they 'never received' the item and then get a refund or insist on a refund. There is all too much reliance on the buyer being honest, which shouldn't be much to ask. I will use recorded delivery if I ever sell an item that is over £20-£30, just to be sure. Thankfully though, the vast majority are honest, its just those few that ruin it for others.

That said, I have never (proverbial curse now, I bet!) had any problems with buyers on here or ebay. Long may that last.

have done - but after calling paypal this morning they said they'd just run my account into negative if it turns out it was fraud

balls. Here's hoping that your buyer was genuine!

Perhaps Ebay/PayPal don't want to know as it's the grey area of 'tickets' being sold above face value.

You might be lucky, could be the mob laundering money, 7.50 is there over heads for cleaning a 20.
