Who can tell me which model of GT this titanium frame is? I've never seen before.

Neither is / does alloy…..

It’s a 93/94 Zaskar frame which has been painted grey or bead blasted would be my guess.

Proving it’s Ti is quite easy …. What colour does it spark?
The welds here are not those of aluminum alloy. You can compare them with the welds of the Zaskar AL, and there are slight differences in details from the Zaskar. Both the frame owner and I have aluminum, steel, and titanium frames, and we are both certain that this is a titanium alloy frame.

Aluminum alloy wouldn't have this kind of yellowish color, and there's a big difference between its welds and those of titanium alloy. Aluminum alloy welds are very thick. As can be seen from the pictures, it has many frames, and it's definitely a titanium alloy one.

Ok then 👍🏻

It does look like titanium to me. I wonder if someone commissioned a Zaskar to be copied in Ti, and it has nothing to do with GT?
I share the same thought, but I feel that custom titanium frames might have been almost impossible in the 1990s. However, I don't know much about titanium frames from that era. But many details are so similar to the Zaskar, including the tube shape of the rear chainstays, the reinforcement on both sides of the dropouts, the style of the dropouts, the rear upper fork connecting plate, and even the direction of the seat tube cut groove.

If it’s titanium. It’s either not a GT or a prototype.

Frame can be dated by its dropout design , canti routing etc to 93-95.

95 has a very slightly different dropout so I think it’s 94.

Xizang was in full production since 1990 and Lightning didn’t arrive until 97. So can’t be a proto of either of them.

What’s the end cap look like? GT logo?

The welds are nowhere as near as Ti GT welds particularly around the dropouts.

That's also one thing that makes me uncertain. The end caps don't have the GT logo, but the GT All Terra also has a completely round top tube and [round tubes]. In fact, it's more like the All Terra than the Zaskar.I suspect that if it was produced by GT, it might have been manufactured in the same factory but then abandoned due to unsatisfactory weight or craftsmanship. Later, GT might have had other brands OEM their titanium frames.

A few things to look at

It's gussetless

It's set up for cantilevers

Machining for the dropouts didn't happen until later in the Zaskar life cycle

A 93 model zaskar had some of the cable stops riveted onand a big chunky cable stop

The welds themselves. The Zaskars of that era had big messy fat welds, these are small and neat - ish

If @ppurist would be prepared to scratch the finish somewhere inconspicuous like the inside of the dropouts, we'd be able to see if there's silver alum´ beneath an anodised surface - or if it's titanium bronze/grey...

Its top tube is like that of this All Terra, for which I also can't find the specific year
