White Industries cranks - are they special?

I've a set of these on my Marin Pine Mountain and notice that they seem to be quite highly rated. I was tempted to get these polished up in the 'summer' (I think that's how you spell it! ) but could also consider flogging these.

They're square taper and the only unusual thing about then is that they can take a 20T granny ring.

Marked inside the cranks as:-

'CUSTOM MADE IN JAPAN FOR WHITE INDUSTRIES 175MM'

Any detailed info about these is appreciated.

I think there were early ones and later ones - with the later ones being made under license for Marin and featured on a few of their bikes.

I still like all of them, but I suspect purists would prefer the earlier kit.

Sure someone will be along soon to set the record straight.

I'm not 100 per of the timeline...yours sound like Sugino cranks made under licence...nice cranks...early ones look like this

There is definatly a distinction between certain versions of them... I can tell you my Dad has just snapped the left crank arm on his Marin  .... but then they did take 15 years of hammer from him. They went around the taper hole bit :? Check for those hairlines

Seriously though, pretty darn good cranks

Right, the earlier (U.S. made) version is the preferred one.
