Which freehub is the same as an ultegra 6402 ? mtb question

I am trying to find a spare freehub for my spinergy so that when I take the dry freehub apart if it explodes,happened before,I will have a spare.I have been told by spinergy that a 600 ultegra 6402 freehub is the same as a spinergy one...........The trouble is that the 6402 is also discontinued :cry: There must be another that is the same ie;105,dura ace,from the mid/late 90s even I suspect an mtb freehub from the same time period :? any ideas? Thanks.

If the 6402 is discontinued as a spare part, I doubt you'll have any more luck finding its contemporaries. The 8-speed Dura Ace model used a different attachment, and wasn't interchangeable with other bodies of the period, but an FH-1056 body is a likely match.

However, nearly all Shimano Hyperglide freehubs use the same attachment (the Dura Ace 7403 is one of the rare exceptions)* and having made a number of body transplants with whatever parts I happened to have lying around, I haven't found many combinations that didn't work. You may find that an XT 750, Ultegra 6500, 105 5500 etc. will work. You do normally need to match the drive-side cone to the freehub body to ensure the seals are compatible. It can be cheaper to buy a complete donor hub.

* also, some modern Shimano hubs now use a hollow 14mm bolt and a 14mm aluminium axle, but that's a fairly recent change.

There are apparently 2 types of freehub body for that model (no idea just reading a list)
The 105 of I assume that era has the same freehub body, though it does not mean you cannot use other bodies.
The numbers could well be something simple like extra seals, different quality bearing, extra metal removed.
Of course sometimes it is a change in fixing.

It says it a HG/UG so there be screw threads on the end if you want to use UG. So that might just be the difference from a newer year one as they moved to HG-C (11 tooth)

where # is a letter as I have a feeling they are all the same design fitting ?

No guarantees though.

Thanks for the link,I think that the guy's at cyclestore have found something and they said 105 is the same essentially as ultegra each year it is made and also that a 9 speed freehub is 8 speed compatible but a seven is not eight speed compatible.........So I think that I may have it sorted and then I will remove my spinergy freehub to find that it is totally different :roll: (probably) :roll:

Did you ever find a freehub to fit your Spinergy wheels (were they
Rev-X's?)

I'm having the same trouble and can't find a 6402 freehub body anywhere. Something must fit.......but I'm not prepared to buy a freehub and find it doesn't work.

Your findings would be appreciated!
