Which forks for my 89 cannondale red shred project?

Hello everyone,
I have been trying for a long while to find some 1" steerer peperoni forks for my 89 cannondale red shred that I recently aquired. Follow the link for a photo to give you an idea! Page 17:

It came with the original forks (tange skinny jobs)............ but i just don't like them with the fat tubes of the bike and they also feel like they weigh more than the frame! So if I can't find the pepperonis and I don't like the tange skinny numbers, what do i put on it? I was toying with the idea of rs1's but i'm not convinced! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

What do you mean dont like em!

I would search for some peperonis if it were mine. They do just look so good on an old Dale.

Bouncy forks is for wimps.

Cheers,Al

Or how's about original steel rc30? Seem to remember Jamie Tatlows 'dale with them on BITD, get em sprayed to match and shove on a flex stem!

Pepperonis do come up on ebay, an 1" pair sold last week for buttons.

Thanks guys,

Yes pepperonis were really my only option but I was getting a bit impatient! I actually won those ones kaiser! its a guy on here called stew, i realised really late that the steerer was far too short of the frame, only 80mm! as I was the only bidder and stew was hoping for a bit more for them i think, we called it quits!

Hi al! no offence intended! Thanks again for this as you know i was trying to find myself one of these for ages and to find one i such good nick was excellent! I love the frame, just much prefer the look of the pepperonis, they seem to balance with the fat frame tubes much better in my opinion!

Hmm, hadn't considered an rc30, i have a syncros bladed/rs1 crowned mongrel fork that I was considering fitting, but the skinniness/weight issue remains............

I think I'll have to be patient and wait for the holy grail! a 1" pepperoni with a long steerer!!

Thanks again guys!

There was another pair about 2 months ago. Whilst not regular they are about. Can totally sympathise with you on the impatience thing, been waiting for a seatpost for donkeys(3weeks  ).

Thanks for being so understanding stew, i'm sure they are worth more than that to someone who can actually use them! I'd certainly have paid much more than that if they'd fit mine!

What makes things harder is that I already have a pair, sat on the front of my almost mint SE2000 est............. have toyed with the idea of taking them off and respraying them   to match the red shred such is my desire to get it built  fortunately I have seen sense and slapped myself every time this thought has entered my head!

HHmmm........ switchblades aren't a bad call, but i think i'd prefer a decent set of syncros forks if i'm going down the straight blade route, have a nos syncros cattleprod and seatpost currently destined for the red shred!

Getting fed up of my ebay searches coming up with this kind of thing!

I love the red shred but agree the forks are a bit skinny, I had a pair of Orange F14's (the one's with the reverse canti posts) on my '95 M900 'dale but when I deciced to respray I knew I needed either pepperoni's or P-bones. Unfortunately the ebay auctions ended up £60+ for the pepperonis so in the end I went for P-bones which I love but they are 1997 not strictly correct. Since opting for the P'bones I have seen some decent pepperonis on ebay.com but you've obviously got the P&P to consider!

Happy hunting and if you do go for the pepperonis watch out the owner hasn't ground off the canti stalk for the power cam thingie.
