Which Dremel?

I'm thinking about getting a Dremel for general fettling on bikes and around the house.

I know a lot of people on here use them, any advice on which is the best one to go for?

Is a cordless one worth the extra money?

no i would avoid the cordless one,it lacks guts.i went thru about 6 demmels or dremmel types over the last 3 years,i used them for cutting glass fibre and carbon fibre,i found the black and decker version best in the end.all the dremmel fittings work with it,check the power when you buy it,the more powerful the better.

What Bill said is true, the flexible thing is your friend! Being a tightwad, and always being fairly impressed with their stuff, I bought one of these:

My only critisism would be the attachments don't last long. This does depend on what you are using them for! The Dremel stuff may well fit though.

i've got the Dremel 395 ,they cost about £30 these days ,you need the flexy extension though as prolonged use on the main unit causes white finger
Its the vibration,
there is a pro dremel,that is just a motor drive unit ,with the extra long flexy extension ,the drive unIt hangs from a hook but it cant be used on its own ,only with the extension [that 1 costs about £130.
Look out for grit impregnated rubber wheels,they are the dogs balls for pre-polishing,theyre not too aggresive

Second the Machine Mart tool - comes with the long flexible extension too. Great price and mine has worked perfectly.

As above the cheap attachments do not last too long but you can buy a shedload of them cheap on ebay. Always wear eye-protection when using one.

sound advice.I was VERY nearly blinded in one eye last year when a cutting wheel exploded and gashed my eyeball.no matter how small the job,get some protection on.

I've got plenty of safety specs so not an issue.

I have a corded Dremel for working on the car with and it's great.

I also have a flexible extension (duplicate order :roll: ) which I'll happily sell if anyone wants?
