Which 1973 Worksop-built Carlton might this be?

Ah! Never twigged it could be 1983, the numbering system kicked in 1973 but I initially thought that it was a miss stamped 8 for 1978.

Those lugs with the teardrop holes started in the late 70's and appeared on a whole range of Raleigh/Carlton frames, including the Rapide which I mistook for a Corsair.

I think you might have trouble nailing the exact frame, especially if someone has filled holes and removed eyelets etc.....

Thanks for all the good info guys.

So it might be a decent frame with some 531 or 501 tubing or it could be a very ordinary 18-21 frame.

Ultimately I like riding it so I'll enjoy it for what it is... a Mystery

It's 531 main tubes at least. The lightweight unit didn't build 18-23 frames, and I don't think they made a 501 with those lugs.

That's great news. Thanks :)
