Where to pick up a good retro bike

I've been bitten by the bug and am now on the look out for a good retro bike. Not sure what I want beyond a hardtail with suspension forks. I'd like to be able to fit disc's but not many older bikes have mounts for read disc. As a mechanical numpty is there a way around this ? I have an interested in old specialised and raleigh bikes. Apart from fleecebay and the sales forum on this site is there anywhere else i should be watching ?

Thanks

Ian

Try bike shops for any part exchanges they have.

As for discs, depends on your definition of retro but you'll be mostly going to be looking at year 2000+ for disc tabs. You can use adaptors but personally I think they are ugly and defeat the point. Either get a slightly newer frame or a modern bike.

Welcome to the site :D

Yo don´t buy a retro bike, you built it. First you find a frame, them the parts you like and cooked it and that´s is all. The retro bicycle you like

Hi
My P7 i had from new, well my brother had it as well, but the kili comp i got very lucky and just stopped a chap in blackpool on the prom , got chattting and he said he was selling it, the rest is history in my garage, and since then i have seen many people on th prom and around different places on old bikes, just stop them and get chattin about how you used toi have one and make a cheeky offer for old times sake :D, it got me a minter.

Always worth keeping an eye on bumblebee auctions if you've a police depot somewhere near. Every know and then a diamond in the rough turns up.

And try freeads and gumtree as these are free listings when people think their bike aint worth hassle of advertising elsewhere for fees.
