Looking for budget camping trail ideas for me and the mrs

She has only just started riding again so I am guessing afan isnt going to be ideal without any easy going trails (or am I wrong?)

Forest of Dean would be a good choise to save on pennies but I always find when not on guided rides you just end up lost without finding super stuff (for other words were spoilt on the guided rides!! )

So looking for

-Good range of trails (sign guided routes)
-Not a million miles away from the midlands
-Camp site nearby

Whats Theford like? Any centres around Afan way?

Cheers

head to the lakes Grisdale is friendly riding and you can stick to the vallys for the rest of it, camp in Hawkshaed or low Wray campsite

Derbyshire Dales area

Right next to the Derby Dales, large Reservoir (carsington http://www.carsingtonwater.com/Cycling- ... 043v01.htm ) to ride around with a purpose made track and I'm sure there where loads of marked trails around.
Can then find hillier if you dare by not travelling far into the peaks

Though Lakes, Grizdale is family riding. Hawkshead has plenty of pubs and a pleasant place. Hillier though.

I'll be over on the far side of there on Coniston soon (next month I think for a few days, better check really)

or

Dalby, but you might enjoy the riding if you can stomach the cost to get it, not sure what the easy trails for recently new riders are like. Still plenty of Moors to ride on

 we are coming to mayhem to heckle!! (hope the weather turns!!)

Good ideas so far a little up north for us Grisdale is approx 220 miles away :?

Though Brecon Beacons seems to tick all the boxes?

So you don't fancy a lap? I can drop my wine gums on the dusty ground again to make the experience all the more real.

No chance.

Head over to south Wales Dave, cwmcarn, Afan etc. A trail is only as hard as you make it, take it easy, stay at a comfortable pace and enjoy yourself.

I can speak highly of Afan. Great trails and great facilities.

The bike centre at Glyncorrwg is particularly good at the start of whites level and Sky Line.

I have also ridden The Wall (at the forest / visitor centre) but Whites for me is the business. Sky Line is a long ride but I haven't done this yet, I have heard it can get monotonous.

Whites can be technical but there are options at the top to miss out certain areas iirc and the uphill (although tough) is gradual rather than steep and technical. The rest is sublime down hill singletrack.

There is a camp site right next to the centre too I believe and the Glyncorrwg centre has shower facilities and a great cafe.

If you feel lazy there is / was an uplift service too!

And no. I dont work for the Wales tourist board

Id be well happy to go back to Afan but there is no light trails for the mrs to cut her teeth before dabbling in more tech stuff (not that I saw anyway)

I think Brecon is the way to go with 14 different trails waysigned from yellow to black ... then get up Afan for a day visit 8)
