when cars had presence

what i meant was after the ban. 250 were produced and mainly snapped up for motorsport and private collections.

after the ban they had to sell the cars off as road cars.

after the ban they were used in hill climb and rallycross. just wondered how that could happen that's all.

Given a choice, I'd go for the 6R4 but none of yer 250bhp Clubman spec - it would have to be an International spec one, 400+bhp. Quite like the idea of a NASP V6 taking on all the turbo rivals. 8)

IIRC, one was tested by 'Autocar' in the 70/80s and declared as the fastest accelerating wheel driven car that they ever tested!

Wouldn't mind a test drive in Will Gollop's twin turbo one at 700+bhp.

Will once did charity runs in his Metro at Manby showground back in 1990. Best £20 I ever spent. He was really pushing too.

.

The number was actually 200 and then if they wanted they could make a further 20 evolution versons.
I heard a story from someone at Boreham that Ford cheated when the FIA came round to inspect the 200 cars they had built. He says they only had around 60 working cars. They were all up at the Reliant factory at Shenstone in the Midlands. After the first 60 cars were checked the Ford guys took the delegates to lunch whilst the workforce pushed all the cars to the other side of the plant to be counted again. Cunning but true.

The Metro's were allowed to carry on in National and International B events into 1987. They were sold off to the public at £25,000 plus VAT. But if you were 'in the trade' you could get them for just £15,000 each.

Happy days :D

Group B is a fantactic window of rally, Every time I see and hear these cars my hairs on the back of my neck go !

I will be looking to forward to seeing most of these out in action next week at Goodwood, the chirp of turbo's , popping of exhausts and the iconic burblely roar of an old 5 pot Audi giving it some in the forrest stage ..... fantastic 8)

Id have an Rs200 please....

I would too, rare and very, very quick.

I remember a reputable car magazine (not Fast car, Max power etc.) testing a rally prepped RS200 and the figures were staggering....I even think it was quicker than the old McLaren to the 100

Old man had one of the original quattros, 5 cylinder turbo, approx 200bhp and nice blocky arches to go with it.....quite an iconic car :D

IIRC, the 6R4 was pretty much the fastest accelerating car around at the time - 3.2 seconds.

I remember hiring a dodgy racing accidents video with my brothers when I was a kid (god knows why). It was fairly grusome. One clip showed two blokes legging it across a Formula 1 track in the 70's. The first guy got taken out by a car and the firing extinguisher he was carrying flew off and killed his mate  .

I remember a story that Toivanen did a few laps at Estoril in his Lancia and his time would similar to the times the F1 guys were doing a few weeks before. Not sure if it's an urban myth but I would love it to be true.
