So attempt three at the old wheel building malarky. All spokes in and everything looks ok, cept a set of spokes where the nipples are all sitting proud of the rim and a set that are almost tight beside them. So swap around? You would think so. Just end up with a bleeding mess again   5 more trys then it quits.

Use a built wheel as a guide. Do one side then the other. If I had to guess I'd say you are off by two holes on one set of 8 and that thru off the rest of the build. Don't give it up, you'rll get it and there is no better feeling than really knowing when you're on the trail that you understand the whole bike and can deal with anything, even in the wheels.

good luck!!

Kaiser , take away all the spokes , go to the Sheldon brown website and start again .

Speak english boy!!!

seriously, I will try and build a set of wheels myself one day.......in the mean time, CK where are you!!!!

Cheers guys, I think a bit of RTFM might be in order. I seem to get half way down the page then decide to go it alone :o Soul destroying taking them all out :x

mark the centre of the hub, masking tape and pen

put spoke in left of valve, miss 6 holes in hub and put other one in coming from behind and put in rim missing one hole nippes same amount of thread

put number three spoke in under first in hub missing 13 holes and forth in under second one hole(in rim) away from third

same other side now finger tight centre wheel

if done right should be almost true and centre with no hop

now fit all other spokes nipples done uo all the same

and start to tention and true

forgot to mention if you look directly at the rim, tilt it slightly so you can see the other side ,if its in centre the line you drew will be between the side nearest you and the side away from you

Cheers monsterfatuk, will try your method through the week. I thought there would be a method of several key spokes setting the hub and working from there.
