What's your crank length ?

Odd this evening for some reason I noted the length of my cranks, 170mm and remembered I am sure I had 175mm on my old bike so went ferreting around the net to see if there was any data as to what is an ideal crank length and found Sheldon Brown saying longer cranks for longer legs and shorter cranks for shorter legs, but it does not really matter as industry tends to concentrate on a narrow range of sizes.

So out of interest, what's your crank length ?

And are you long legged or short legged ?

Short legged, 175mm.
Have had an XTR-crankset in 167.5mm on order, but it never came.
165mm on the track bike, 170mm on the roadbikes.
Phonebooks have been filled with discussions on cranklength, only read a few of them.

My newer bike has 175mm cranks, my older one 170mm. I'm quite short, with a 31" inside leg and I'm convinced the shorter cranks are more comfortable and I'd like to replace the crankset with one with shorter 170mm arms on the newer bike at some point.

See, i'm fascinated by that. My inside leg is about the same, but i've always had 175 cranks.

On this Kona i've picked up the cranks are 170 and it feels totally different, definitely like the cranks are too short.

I suppose it's what you're used to..

Only ever used 175mm. Rode a weard CX bike once that had a different length and it felt very strange.

I feel as if I'm spinning with 170 so prefer 175mm

especially when it comes to the 'big ring challenge'

Long legged but use the cranks that work for any given bike. My recumbent has 160mm, you cant stand on the pedals thus have to use the gears and so leverage not an issue. Road bikes 165 - 175, shorter was for fixie up tl longer for tourer. Offroad 170 - 180, the longest was for a single speed, extra leverage SS off road is useful.
