What's the difference Shimano DEORE LX and DX

Re:

A 95 frame is a bit late for DX, except maybe the thumbies. The 1993+ LX is great anyway so well worth fitting.

In my opinion the 1990-92 LX was much lower rent gear compared to the same era DX which had a much nicer finish. TBH I tend to think of that period of LX as the top of the 300/400/500 LX group as it seemed to have many similar components.

Some of the 1989 Deore kit seems to have carried over to the DX era (Crank arms, not rings, thumbies, canti's for 1990, levers) but others were different from the start, such as the rear mech.

Re:

Should I go for either

Deore LX 1994 (I have most of the group)
FC-M560 Chainset
RD-M560 Rear Mech (7-Speed)
ST-M560 Lever combo

Or

Deore LX 1995
FC-M563S
RD-M565
FD-M565
ST-M563
ST-M564

I might use my Deore or Deore DX bits for my earlier Marin Palisades Trail

I'd go for the '95 LX. I have cantis, cranks, and DX shifters on my Fire Mountain (with XT mechs) and they all work great.

DX is made up of MT60 and later MT62 components including thumbies, M-071 sti (push push)and M-75 rapid fire plus (push pull). 1st generation 1987 MT60 chainsets are better finished than the run out year 1993 versions.

LX is M550 and uses a variation of the sti found with the 200/300/400/500 LX range. It shares quite a bit cosmetically with the 3/4/500 LX range but is actually a groupset in its own right. It was only around for about 2 years.

As above, later M560 'LX' is very well finished - theres compact drive 94 bcd from 1994 and 110 bcd chainsets
