What's the difference between
Shimano Deore LX
Shimano Deore DX

Re:

I have a 95 Orange P7
Running 7 speed group
So LX would be suitable?

I also have some STX and STX-RC

DX 7 speed?

Re:

Deore DX and LX both came out in 90 with DX being the higher spec of the two. DX stopped in 94 and LX effectively moved up a level.

DX remained predominantly the same for this period but LX changed to the all black group (m560) in 93.

Both were 7 speed and completely interchangeable.

Wasn't some of the DX groupset just rebadged Deore? I'm thinking of the rear mech and thumbshifters, mainly.

And cranks?

Thumbies weren't even rebadged!

The stuff called simply Deore that I have came on a brand new ridge back mtb I bought at our local "freewheel" store in 1988. My ex mrs still uses the frame and wheels.
So that's certainly before 1990.

Deore ran 86-88 (6 speed) and Deore II for one year only in 89 (7 speed) before DX came along in 90. Various parts crossed over and 6 and 7 speed were both available for a period
