What's happened to all the "stuff"

So where's it all gone!

You know the sales stuff!

I know times are bad, but i get the sneaking suspicion that as the prices are a bit low at the moment, everyone has gone back into "hoarding mode".

Whilst I get the idea that selling stuff for less than it was "worth" 3 years ago hurts a bit, theres more to it than that.

First, sitting on kit in boxes doesn't help the hobby/ community and a lack of build kit is hardly likely to entice more people to the hobby.

Second, are you really going to use that part? Or should I put it a different way; are you really going to use that part in 10 years time. I doubt I will be doing any off roading by then, so that's a big NO 😂.

Third, why not sell the bits now cheap, have the cash now and use it to buy the ( also cheap) parts you need to get that shed bound project under way.

For the last couple of years we had a black "friday sale" on here, but instead could we just try to loosen our grasps on some of that kit, be realistic and get some life blood flowing back into a hobby we all love.

All the best and be safe out there!

Finding similar. Get offered loads of NOS bits I need but when it comes down to it they never get back to me and leaves my project completion even longer.
Frustrating.

My default setting is "hoarding mode"
Yeah, me too, it's long since got out of hand. I've gone off Ebay. Stuff doesn't go on here unless it's rare, super cheap or often both. Marketplace brings out the chancers. I decided to keep an eye on wanted adverts on here but it seems no one wants what I have or it's little bits that I end up letting go for postage. So.... Back too hoarding. 😁

It's mine, all mine, apart from your Stumpjumper which is mine too :p

I need to sell/give away bits, but it’s all in storage currently so unable to get to it until it all comes back to the new garage. Then I need to get my selling arse into gear! It’s always so much easier to accumulate than sell/give away! 🤪😬

No, i see that too.

But.....if you don't put it up for sale nobody will buy it.

Plus..most of us don't know we need it till we see it up for sale..then think..."ooooooooh nice".😂

Nos will always go to the "wall hanger" mechants, but i think lots of us are genuine riders and enthusiasts....we all have bikes with cheaper bits on and all have projects we would like to get finished...even if its just to say "done", ride it a bit, then move on.

Value of kit is an illusion anyway. Its worth what's its worth. Yes its less than before, but you also need to remember a lot of this is cyclical.

By that I mean a lot of people are buying back their teenage years. If you are 40 now and having a giant 5 storey crisis, your looking at stuff from being 15 in 2000! Our "retro" section don't even go that far 🤣.

so why not sell off some of that kit now before it becomes "emotionally obsolete " for the common man!

I'm sure most of us have sold stuff in the past, only to find you could have done with it a while later, then found that a direct replacement is going to cost more than you got for it. I think this is probably subconsciously my main reason for hanging onto stuff. Rightly or wrongly. 😁
I know what I should do is list everything that is not currently bolted to a bike but then I look at the pile, think 'where do I start' and do nothing instead. 😂
Maybe, I'll try the Black Friday thing again this year. 👍 🙂
