What years did Mavic make Citron coloured rims?

Ever seen an orange X517?

MAVIC certainly offered a range of finishes to their OEM buyers, but I've only ever seen orange Open Pro road rims as OEM on a few high-end Cannondales, and never an orange X517.

A date delimited Google groups search finds mentions of the X517 citron in late 1997 as a new model for '98, e.g.

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.moun ... vic+citron

I suspect the English language MAVIC website was translated from a French document, and "citron" somehow turned into "orange".

No, wasn't riding around then
Citron would turn in to Yellow or more probably Lemon
Colours are very similar looking at the above Mavic colour squares though and the colour picture was called Orange for that year in it's file name.

But I'm just saying what their website is, was, saying.
They had had since the end of 1996 at least (first archive page) to get to grip with translation
www.mavic.fr is quite a bit later and no working pages :(

That's what you'd expect, certainly, but mistranslation can follow its own, strange logic.

The Internet was surprisingly slow to take off in France: they had a thing called MiniTel that provided some of the functions of a limited internet service. At the time I moved to Paris in late 2001 many major French companies had a very limited web presence. It's quite possible that mavic.com originated with the US importer. A lot of the text on the early pages reads like a translation.

The interesting question is, if the X517 was offered in orange in 1997, and not citron (as per the web site), where are all the orange rims? The only one I've seen is the picture I posted above. And why were the good people of alt.mountain-bike discussing citron in late '97, with no mention of orange?

2 down none to go???
My citron x317's are nearly a perfect match for my GOLD frame.

They're for a chromed frame with citron(ish) Marzocchi forks. I think the match should be close enough. Though that's about as bling as the build will get on this one.
