What year Dave Yates

Re:

This is an interesting one, I'd bet around 1992/3 ish.

That paint job would have cost almost as much as the diablo frame/P2 fork - someone must have wanted it badly... or maybe it was some sort or promo.

Would like to hear what you get back from Dave Yates.

I really hope you can save that paint - it would be great to see it with Sinnerman's vulcan and Gio's DONKIS.

That would be great seeing it with my two dream bikes of all time, the good thing is 90% of the paint can be saved just needs a really good clean. The toptube needs respraying though with the pearl white and the purple at the bottom bracket needs redoing. They must have put heat on it to free the bb but it didn't work and damaged the paint. My plan is to take it to a painter's near me who's really good and get him to blend it in and try and touch it up aswell, fingers crossed it'll come up a treat.
With a 7 colour paint job like it has i'm hoping Dave will remember it and give a bit of history about it and I'll post it up on the build thread I'll be starting soon.
Plans for it so far is to free the seatpost,bb and stupid quill stem adapter thing, fingers crossed everything will ok then send to my mate for painting.
Parts wise so far i'm not going nos stuff, reason being i done that with my 89 Explosif and i've hardly rode it for fear of damaging parts,i know i know bikes are meant to be ridden
So i'm going to start with some first gen XT V-brakes and some Campagnolo wheels and i've got a lovely carbon fibre flite saddle to use, then take it from there. But the main thing will be to let the colours of the bike be the centre of attention and hopefully it'll turn out nice, looking forward to building it.

Cannot wait to see the build thread for this one - sounds like you've got a great plan of attack :-)

Cheers Si ,it's a build i've been looking forward to starting for a while now. If something fits and i win something on eBay it could determine where the build ends up :D

Had a look at the photos of your diabolo, thats a early 90's colour alright very bright, looks class. And it looks a lot like mine and with the numbers it be from the same year. The weather's good today up in the toon so i'm going to get some photos done and fire them off to Dave Yates and see what happens.

Re:

Still needs a good clean but here's a couple of quick photos as it is now.

Re:

thats got so much potential, botm stuff for sure.

I really hope you get the stem, post and bb out without too much drama. Why people don't put a bit of copper slip on these interfaces is beyond me.

The paint doesn't look too bad and if your contact can blow a bit of purple and white over it i think that would be perfect

good on you for travelling so far to get it - you deserve a bit of luck with it now - watching with interest

Loving that paint scheme - can't wait to see how it cleans up. Best of luck with the restoration.
