My young brother has been "done" recently and i feel really annoyed for him.

He's 25 and been driving 8 years but has been stopped by the Police 86 times to date.

Most of those have not been logged and quite a lot have been "routine" stop checks. In the 8 years he's owned as many cars. But to be stopped so many times he's got to the point of being so nervous when he sees a Police car its ridiculous. What case has he got for discrimination? Most, 99% of the stops have been in the same town, i really think there is a campaign against him, but really he is no boy racer.

This last time he got stopped he was convicted of driving with no hand on the steering wheel, he told me that he saw 4 Police officers and thought just act natural (just think he has already been stopped 85 times at this point) but he gets pulled...he even asked them, "where were my hands if they wern't on the wheel".... "oh here somewhere.... don't even bother going to court, there are 4 of us..." i mean i feel so sorry for him.... North Wales Police

There are so many other people to go after, the pillocks who slam on to let people on from a slip road, what happened here, they suddenley change the highway code?? or pillocks who have no lane discipline on roundabouts, or the ones who drive 40 in a 60 then 40 through a 40 then carry on 40 through a 30... but all these pillocks drive "normal" cars, so why would they get stopped

UPDATE MAY 2010

Well, he is now paying just over £1,000 extra in premiums. Went up from £600 to £1,600 on renewal when declaring the MS60

And

He can only find 2 insurance companies that will touch him, all the rest refuse to quote!!

He's had a play around with quotes and it's easier and cheaper to get insurance with drink driving convictions. All this for something he didn't do, it's winding me up so I can only imagine how he feels Evil or Very Mad

So what car(s) does your brother drive? To be stopped so many times does sound a bit odd

Could be lots of reasons he gets a tug and maybe he's not quite as innocent as he sounds. Have you been with him on any of these occasions? What car does he own? Whats his attitude like to the coppers? Is it always the same copper? See when i was a yoof i was an arse with a huge chip on my shoulder and thought i could drive like michael shoemaker so i generally attracted lots of attention from the law. I once went in the police station and made a complaint about this copper who tugged me all the time, next night he stopped me and said no matter how many times i complained he was going to stop me every time he saw me. Eventually he grew bored and moved onto someone else.

What i was thinking, the police in some areas are getting very tight on modified hatchbacks for instance, in particular lowered suspension and loud exhausts, with VW's for example the fashion is for stretched tyres and wheels slightly out from the bodywork i've heard owners getting loads of hassle for this, the Police also check insurance to see if mods have been declared.

I've been driving 21 years and just about all my cars have been different from the "norm", only two times i've been pulled was for not wearing a seatbelt and going through a red light (amber just as i got to the line) which the Police witnessed, never been pulled for a "spot check".

i can kinda feel for him a bit,

when i was younger i did have a bit off a boy racer car and got stopped 11 times in 1 week just going around the city.

i finally lost my rag and got threatend with been arressted, i got treated badly,

i had to sit in the cop car while they de-wired my subs leaving them on the side off the road so they could check my spare wheel well for 'illegal things'

They drove off leaving me to put it all back in the car in the middle off the night.

had so many my girlfriend thought i was wanted for summit serious.

Well he got his licence back the other week.

MS60, which basically is miscellaneous - miscellaneous

adds about 500pound onto his premium with his current insurance, but if he moves to a new one its 200pound extra.

So, 3 points, 60pound fine and then 500pound insurance this year, 200pound extra for the next 4 years for something he did not do

Incidentally, anybody notice Top Gear on Sunday, Jeremy driving the Renault Twingo, coughing into one hand, changing gear with other - no hands on wheel, and from the window it looks like he was on public roads, hmmm something tells me he wont get a fine for actually doing the deed!

This does seem harsh, but I'm sure there must be some reason for all this, otherwise he sounds like he's got a good case for victimisation. Has he done anything to piss the local plod off? And I mean, anything, car related or otherwise.... Also there's the possibility he's pissed off someone locally who has taken it upon themselves to report him for driving like a twat (for example) every time he drives past their house, this has happened to friends of mine who got tugged regularly (although not 86 times!!!) it turned out to be someone round the corner from where he lived who got pissed off with my mate for driving too fast/loud music etc and reported him repeatedly to the law.

Also if he's driving something from www.barryboys.co.uk might explain a fair amount!

Or maybe the cops round your way are just pr1cks!!

The car is std from the outside, apart from some deep dish alloys, and it's an ultra clean, rare 80's car. He doesn't play loud music. And he always drives slowly in built up areas, he was passing these officers at 20mph.

He's is no barryboy, he's currently studying Mechanical Engineering (and not of the car mechanic sort, proper engineering) and is set for a high 2:1

I have lost track of the number of cars he's owned, but some have been very ordinary and he still gets stopped. The one he was stopped in for this incident is his long term keeper project car.

I do think it's him they are victimising, he's not been stopped once in Liverpool whilst he was living there for over a year and he still goes their quite often. He hasn't intentionally pissed anyone off.

All the trouble he's had has been with North Wales Police. He is seriously fed up, when i ask about this incident you can see that he is really cut up and just wants to avoid talking about it because he knows there is NOTHING he can do about it other than just to take it. If he complains it'll just get worse, and like most of us, he needs his car and cannot risk a ban by being constantly stopped and to be done for something else that he didn't do.

It's hard to form a picture from a keyboard but I would be making a note of every stop ( don't the police have to record everything ? ) and the officer/s badge number ( if that's the correct term for it )

The police isn't above the law .

First and only time I've ever been stopped was the day after I got my license , me and a mate had to nip to halfords to pick up some crap and he didn't wear a belt . I had the mk2 escort at the time and it was haggard as hell , one owner from new but that one owner would only ever drive to the pub , get drunk and swipe parked cars on the way home so it was solid but all the panels were fooked . The condescending copper said " you clearly can't afford " in reference to the fine I would receive for the mot that had expired the day before . Cheeky bugger , I was making over a grand on a 3 day week

A phone call to a mate who was a mot tester and it was done the next day .
