What next?

Since finishing my Alpinestars Cro mega build I don’t know what to do next? I’ve got a 1997 P7 that I have managed to get a seatpost out of that is ripe for a refresh or do I get one of the many frames on ebay from that era to do a build?
If you were to rebuild a bike would it be stock, as trick as you would have wanted as a kid or a sympathetic rebuild with a mix of better quality parts and maybe disc brakes? I quite like the idea of an older bike with disc brakes not for the braking power but it’s like making that ‘old’ bike as updated as it could be.
I love the idea of trawling sites finding either NOS or as good condition period parts but as I’m from Yorkshire I like to do it on a budget too.
It would be nice to get others views

I like a bit of this and a bit of that, but usually build form parts in the garage I have lying around. either from bike jumbles or the old bring n dump in the back of someone's car at the old RetroBike rides (way before these days of buying NOS at extra high price high price or actually charging retrobikers more than mate's rates, if that)

I have some modernised to just newer kid, the main riders I would like to ride and destroy.
I have some done up nice from mostly period times.
I have some are just done

Most are not mega tidy, I like patina. Not refurbs and now decals, normally, unless it needs it.

welding disctabs on can be fine, some great Neo-Retro build on here, and excellent A*'s build too a long time back. But why bother if it's late 90s.. just move on a few years and get and early 00's bike.
Unless you're doing it properly and jewel banding disc onto MAG21s and XC700s and bodging them on the rear too, making them look properly retrofitted.

OR basically, do what makes you happy, sod everytone else. they'll like it anyway in reality :-)

97 P7 to me is boring, not my thing, but perhaps to you it means something.
Try a mid to late 90's full sus bike build.. They can be interesting to read about.

Great reply and summarise bang on. I do get the P7 being a bit boring and probably too easy. I think a mid 90s full suspension would definitely be nice. The only ones I can remember were GT RTS or cannondale with the dodgy seatpost.
What others are they?
