what mud tyres?

Onza Rip & Rail do it the old fashioned way. ;)
Of course Panaracer Mud Pro and the XC Pro if it's not actually going to be constant thick gloopy mud. Come in narrow and light as well. (mud pro at 1.8")
 
As has been said a couple of times, Bonty Mud X are the best by miles. Continental Mud Kings are pretty good.

Yeah, they changed the name of it to XR Mud this year. It's the same tyre with a different logo on it. The tread in that picture is the one you want.
 
Ask about the best tyres for mud after Mountain Mayhem has finished this weekend.

My personal choice is Schwalbe Black Shark Mud 1.5 - now discontinued in this size.
