I am sure there was a thread similar to this but can't find it?Out of all the bikes I have owned, narrowing down to just mountain bikes it's 30 and 15 of them were GT's, including the '91 Zaskar currently in progress.
I have owned many different brands besides GT of course...
Dawes
Peugeot
Raleigh M-Trax
Boardman
Trek
Voodoo
Carrera
KHS
Marin
Mongoose
Merlin (Columbus Zona tubing, bought as frame only to replace my dying GT i-Drive 4.0)
Most of them sold, a few of them stolen.
Only in the last couple of years did I decide to hang on to some bikes that have meaning to me and those are currently in my signature.
That started with the purchase of my '99 GT Tequesta two years ago, which I did end up selling on.
Now I find myself contemplating whether to narrow my collection down to just my early 90's bikes and my modern Zaskar (29er)
My first Mountain bike was my 1990 Dawes Tracker, which got stolen.
I then bought the Peugeot Anaconda (comparable to the Dawes in many ways, but a smaller frame made it easier to handle, still regret trading it in against a Trek Antelope 820.
In 1992 I bought my first GT, a lovely green 1992 Timberline, which also got stolen from outside work..
I had a few GT's since and the only other bike besides my '93 Zaskar I ended up selling, regrettably, was my custom build Merlin, which I bought as a frame to replace my ailing GT iDrive 4.0, though this and and the bike that replaced were both the longest I ever held onto, 4+ years....
That Merlin (from Merlin Cycles UK) was what I believe one of their own builds, but I bought as frame only on eBay for £55 back in 2006.
It was a frame made with Columbus Zona tubing and was a joy to ride.
Fast forward to today where I now own my favourite bike of all, my 1992 GT Bravado.
And yes, I am slightly biased towards GT of course! But I do appreciate and recognise that fact that there are many other steel frames that would possibly beat the '92 Bravado in looks and ride quality but it was the best I could afford at that time.
