What makes a great BOTM?

I ignore the bike that is clearly going to win and vote for the best of the rest.

Problem with BOTM is not 'clique' voting, but that the voting crowd is small and consistent. There's only 200 active members who vote every month and their taste isn't going to vary that much from month to month. If the winning bikes are American exotica 6 months in a row then it's unlikely that an Activator, no matter how lovely, is going to win as long as the voting crowd remain the same.

Personally I go for the unique, rare or special, something with history, a story or a shit load of restoration work that's saved it from a scrap pile. I don't really care if a bikes ridden or not as long as it's loved. But most of all I vote for whatever bike my friends are voting for.

I think that this is what many are saying needs to change. Lots of great perspective within this thread so I hope that you are joking as that's simply not right. I truly do. :facepalm:

Funny thing is the last vote was won by a massive landslide, something like a third of the votes for one bike. Are people honestly saying that there are others out there able to coordinate 70 people to vote for the same bike, for no financial or practical gain other than a signature banner on a niche website? Christ, I have difficulty enough coordinating my socks in the morning.
Is it not more likely that it was a bike that just hit the right spot? Go through this thread and look at people's tick list - that Fat just ticks every box.

Introduce a bit of chance, narrow who your voting for down to two then flip a coin. Or dont take part and let others decide and live with it as i do, as ultimately a bikes just a bike.

The accusations of vote rigging or ganging up make me laugh as the same was said a few years back but most of those that were fingered as bullies hardly post these days. Is it some sort of cult where elder members pass on their bully rights to new up and coming posters?

This formula doesn't take into account rallying troops to vote (for you as well as/instead of the bike).

As mr k says in can turn into a popularity contest, where people vote for someone considered cool or from the "it " crowd

Yes, you need to be a proud member of SPBoB "The Self Promoting Band of Brothers". Ridiculous to claim that one must have studio photos to win. Nahh.. I say this just proves BoTM at its best is just like a cat-fight bake-off contest.
