What makes a great BOTM?

To suggest there's a collective group purposely only voting for one of their buddies bikes .....absolutely ridiculous

In my opinion, it's gotten to the point where there are so many great bikes entered every month (and I find it great to see things that I don't see very often over here like the Lloyds, the Oranges and even the Rocky Mountains; and it seems like the Kleins in Europe are always excellent), that I tend to be nitpicky about things like pedal cages, crazy saddle angle and photography. I'm not saying it should be beautifully photographed but it would be nice to see some effort like having it be in focus.

I also like bikes that are ridden. I've greatly reduced the number of bikes I have because it just bugged me that I couldn't get to all of them and tried to keep only those that I do enjoy riding. It has worked out great so far. No guilt!

But ultimately, it's nice to be able to take a glance at all the bikes and pick the one that make your heart quiver a little faster. I remember bikes more than I remember who owns them.

'Posteryouleastliketofthemonth'?

I always hated the one of the topless bloke holding the baby. Is that baby looking at him or bar ends on risers?

haven't read the whole thread but my view is:-

1, the picture should be well taken, i don't expect pro photog quality but some effort should be made to take a good picture
2, the bike should be fully built, meaning with pedals etc
3, ideally the bike should have it's own theme.
4, the bike should ideally be clean so the spec can easily be seen, exception is a muddy BOTM.
5, matching tyres
6, bikes that are riders are preferred, you have a 2 pic option, a good side on photo and one on the trail appeals to me.

these are the things i look for personally, if the bike is great but the picture is taken in your darkened garage with piles of junk all around i will not vote for it as in my opinion it shows a lack of respect for the bike, the comp and the voters.

i like matching groupsets, or matching ano, hate parts bin builds spec wise especially if there is alot of mixed shade of the same colour ano/paint, also the usual things of just very obvious bad set up, saddle tilt etc. i like a theme on the bike, a full groupset is always nice for example, there are many themes to choose from, catalogue spec, period spec, in the ball park spec, matching ano etc, pick one (maybe 2)

i personally am not fussed about catalogue spec stuff as i find it a little anal and obsessive but i respect it. in conclusion, i like good period correct-ish builds in good condition that get used.

Opinions are fine, it's the way they are articulated and presented that annoys and frustrates which sometimes wrongly spills into nonsense and idiocy.

To suggest there's a collective group or swell of people purposely not voting for something based on the perception of the poster is straight out Operation Mindfuck business.

Is it really though...surely it's human nature to be swayed one way or the other by other peoples posts?

I do feel people jump on the band wagon sometimes, when there is no need and that would add to the nonsense and idiocy, as you rightly suggest.

I agree with all of this. (Apart from the anal/obsessive bit as I often end up there on builds  )

I would quite like 'build of the month' where all completed builds that month go head to head for the best build.
Might have to make it build of the quarter in reality.

But as good build thread with good details and reasons, it would make me bother doing a proper build thread and might make me and others do a proper job.

I like that idea. I think people like reading the good build threads and get a lot inspiration from them, so makes sense to me.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm being a bit anal with my build thread, do you want to see all the cleaning, polishing etc ?
