What kind of Trek is this?

Just pumped up the tyres. They seem to be holding air. New seatpost bolt and it'll be good to go...of course I'm already planning a paint job and full rebuild... :D

So the story is I bought this years ago from a car boot. It was cheap but had been fairly messed about with. Paint job was DIY. Wheels were mismatched and the back had a broken spoke. Had cantis on the front, and XT v-brakes on the back. I think the rear mech was an XT too, not sure what happened to that...

I rode it a briefly and despite the poor condition it was very sprightly. I didn't feel it was a great fit but as I remember the main issue was the long reach to the bars (different stem to the one pictured). Had a few ideas re what to do with it but then my dad saw it and liked it, a swap was agreed, he rebuilt it replacing some of the bits - fitted the steel chainrings pictured as the original ones were knackered, replaced the stem, put cheap Tektro brakes on it etc... then his mrs rode it a few times and it was left to rust in the back yard.

Not sure whether this is for me or my mrs though. Quite a small frame (16.5") I'm roughly 6 ft but longer in leg than in torso. I do fancy a new mountain bike as my Rockhopper got built up as an ugly bastard commuter/tourer... Could I make it fit or would I be better off looking for something else?

Re:

Bike is a Trek Singletrack 9x0 (X hard to say as all models had exactly the same frame, True Temper Comp II double butted, and the only difference were components and the fork, externally nearly the same, but higher models had Tange Big Fork, and lower had a Trek own model).

Yours is 1993, because it has lugs (only made up to 1993) but it has a cable stop for the front derailleur (only present after that year, before the stop was directly mounted in the front derailleur).

Components I guess are not original since you have v-brakes (not to be seen until 1995). Also, you seem to have a rear Deore LX and front Deore XT, while normally bikes came with full gruppo of the same level, or rear derailleur (what people look at when buying) higher than the rest.

The '93 950 for example came with full Deore LX and rear derailleur XT.

Nice bike. Clean, oil, and keep it going...!!

Does the seat stay up without the the bolt? Or jsut enough friction to keep it up without sitting on it. (hope not a stuck seatpole)

It's free. My dad must have greased it. :)

Front tyre's gone flat though...

Re:

I don't know what model it is, but I reckon it was built fairly late on a Friday afternoon:
