is it my imagination or is that a bilaminate joint rather than a lug? Agree the CL chainset points to quality. Dyno hub and bag support show a well thought out all rounder. dyno hub may have dating info. would like to see more pf the tubing joints.

Hi tomorrow I will head up to my unit and get some close up pictures of the bike etc and hopefully we can get this sorted. Then I'll know what direction I need to go with it in restoring it

Re:

Hi, looks like a post war Carlton Clubman, if restoring make sure you retain the bottom bracket, 90% sure it will be a larger Chater Lea size. Terry

What sort of year would this be

Looks as if there was a fair bit of chrome there originally. Carlton were famous for their liberal chroming - weren't they?

Have fun getting the seat pin out........................... Overall a very interesting find. Early GB brakes dates from early post-war - but that saddle needs a very large dose of Proofide! With a bit of TLC it will probably come back to life in a very pleasing way.

Those EverReady 'screw in' back lights were terrible. I could never get one to stay lit for any length of time (rubbish contacts inside I suppose) and the old U2 batteries had a very short life expectancy.

Please keep us in touch with how you progress with it.

This seems to be very close to what I have (looks wise) it's a Carlton flyer (1947ish) but I need to clean up certain parts to see whats what

The sort of specification to make any young lad of the period's mouth water! I used to dream of owning a bike like that.

Says 'Gloria' brakes on the spec. but I'm sure the ones on yours are GB. Probably a short term supply hiccup - or Gerry Burgess made an effective sales visit to Worksop!
