what happened with cannondale

My first Cannondale ,well to be honest,my only Cannondale had an alivio rear mech.
It was explained that the quality frame made up for it.
Ive a pic somewhere :?

it just looked awful..crappy steel crankset ,pressed plate v brakes, plastic pedals...it was like finding out it was sold at tescos for 99 quid...there should be a law against it...

Bought a ' Dale Rush last year. It's easily the best climbing / descending / braking / steering / most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. It also cost more than twice what I paid for the bike it replaced [a Klein].

But.... the chain set [now replaced] had two steel inner rings and weighed so much it went off my scales!

It's never had a wet ride yet, but many of the bolts and all of the Avid ones are going rusty.

It seems it's the component spec of this Chinese built bike that lets a great frame down.

Would I buy another Cannondale? Er, yes I probably would.

PS A friend has bought a Specialised Epic in the last 3 months and yes the Avid bolts are going rusty.

 rusty bolts on a modern bike....my xtr M950 are pretty ancient and they have no rusty bolts anywhere...is it quality control or something :?:

Found pic :D
My M200 .I cant remember what year,might have been around 1995/6 :?

I think the cranks are original but the mechs i changed from STX to XT m737/9 and STX-rc rapidfire shifters
Rear hub was an alivio silent clutch, front was STX
RSP stem, onza bar ends, quadra something for the fork with the stem just clamped to the threaded section of the steerer
Alivio canti's with alivio levers
All the Alivio and the STX stuff is original as far as i can remember :?
I cant remember the saddle,im not sure if it was a flite or not
Nice bike to ride despite being their bottom of the range[£500],i had it for 3 years before it went the way of so many and got sold.At least i know it went to a loving home.
Given whats available today at 500 quid,i'd say the M200 way out classes them even with STX/Alivio spec.
Now for 500 you get an Alloy generic frame with unbranded parts and a Deore rear mech as if that makes it all OK

BITD - 1997 To be precise , I had the choice of a cannondale with lowly mc50 headshok and alivio/srt400/stx group, or a P7 with alivio everywhere and MAG21's. Both £800, both cases of paying for a nice frame, rather than a trek or a kona with nicer bits on...

I still have the P7...
