was getting my usual tea at maccie dees this morning and was shocked to observe a modern ish blue cannondale outside that .......this hurts to say it...gggnnnn....it had alivio on it as standard ....aaaarrrggghhhhhhhh....why ....

Don't you remember BiTD? Any group test in the comics that included a Cannondale always had to explain the lowly groupset. The others in the test had XT and the 'dale had LX or less.
You paid your money for the frame and upgraded the parts as the fell off.

You got to sell bikes and thus you got to apeal to the broadest market share and still make money.

Dale aint niche, if they were they'd have to shed 90% or more of their workforce and seriously downscale.
