What frame for uber-light build?

The best way to lose weight is to go running. For some reason, mtbing isn't anything like as effective. If you feel too fat to run, then you should *definitely* start running! Slow as you like, doesn't matter, but never stop for a rest, three times a week, beats dieting any day.

true. I went down from 15 stone to 12.5 stone in 6 months but running 2 hours a week at a steady (but not excessive) pace and stopped eating pies (and suchlike!). That got the weight off. Once weight was gone I started cycling again and it has kept the weight off (and is MUCH better for my knees), however I have to cycle about 3 hours a week at least to maintain weight.

You make it sound as though you don't enjoy cycling three hours a week!

"I'm just off to do my cycling exercise darling - of course I don't really want to, but you wouldn't like me to start putting on weight again, would you?"

The things we do for the wife's sake eh?

I got a Klein Adroit that falls within your budget

The question is.......is it your size, cos it's too 'Small' for me!!

cannondale frames are pretty light. i remember being well impressed by the stripped weight of my 3.0 series

If you want to run, are a larger gentleman and want to be kind to your kness run offroad. It's not he same as cycling offroad but it's amazing how different the same trails can look.

Running is also great if you are time limited too and there's much less to clean if it's extremely muddy.

Not better than cycling, not worse, just different.

As for the frame - I just bought Drapoon's LTS. He was kind enough to drop it off tonight. It's really going the other way from a lightweight XC rig, but I reckon I'll probably be happier in the end.

As for the weight loss. I'm 6'1" and 16 stone and need to shift 3 stone at least to get to my ideal weight. I tried running/jogging but it physically hurts - in both my knees, but shins, and my sides. The cycling won't be as effective, but I enjoy it a lot more and can do it without any pain. Lugging the LTS uphill to work every day should make it more of a workout anyway

Don't despair, I lost three stones in three months five years ago, and I've been at the same weight ever since then, without dieting, just plenty of exercise.

I do think running is the best, but if that doesn't suit then badminton is pretty good, especially singles. But like you say, you've got to enjoy it otherwise you'll never keep it up. Personally, I couldn't be doing with gym work, I like fresh air, but lots of people swear by it and good luck to them.

Running gets strangely adictive if you keep it up  The hardest bit is getting out and starting running as you feel HUGE running for the first few times and bits of you you didn't know you had are jiggleing about :D

I went up to 13 stone a few years ago even though I was cycling regulary and still time trialing quite well :? then I started running and the weight came off very quickly

I'm now 37 years old and the same weight I was at 16 just under 10 stone :D and I've started racing bikes again  but I also love running races now :)

I race at something now almost every weekend and I'm having a great laugh, although I had forgotten quite how knackering cyclocross is  and we're doing New York Marathon next year as well :)

Whatever way you do it losing weight will be the best thing you ever did mate :) you'll just enjoy everything you do that little bit more :)

I've also got a secret weapon in my exercise regime - extra ballast:
