If you ride off road , when you add suspension , it takes away what riding off road is all about in my opinion.
This, I'm not quite of an age where I need it.

Cool, thanks for the input... Once the shoulder heals I'll be trying more riding without suspension and see how it goes, might start looking for some 1" steerer suspension though because there ain't a lot around...;-)

Obviously with suspension you can ride faster , more comfortably and feel less tired than without it, but why not just buy a motor cross bike?

With suspension their is also additional maintenance/ servicing to consider, if it goes wrong in the middle if nowhere , whos going to help ? something a freind of mine discovered last year when we were in Africa when his rear shock exploded .

A rigid mountain bike requires a far more skilled rider , than that of one on a suspension assisted bicycle.

Where's the fun if you can just switch on auto pilot and just plough over everything in your way?

Get some wider tyres and try that , keep it rigid , keep it simple and just ride.

I'm not the only one. Agree Agree agree agree agree.............. :D

Cycling is all about fitness. A fit rider on a rigid will be faster than an un-fit rider on a susser bike

not essential, i have 4 bikes all rigid

Cheers mate, I shall have to sharpen my skills then!!

Do you all plough through rock gardens and such on your rigid bikes? I think that's the one thing that scares me somewhat!

Lol, I know but it seems so counter-intuitive!! Head for them rocks there, keep your speed up..... uh-oh ;-)

I'm lost again though? STS = and also LTS = ... Pardon my ignorance, please.....

LTS, RTS etc are models of GT. Mikee is trying to subtly brainwash you into owning a GT. It's his mission in life to get as many people as possible onto them :D

Ahhh, I thought it was shorthand for some form of bike setup or something!! Glad to be enlightened, although your out of luck with me Mikee, I kind of avoid GT's if only because as a teenager a friend of mine had one and ended up smashing his wrist to pieces due to the frame collapsing whilst riding it once (it never saw a dirt track btw, he only used it on roads/paths, so it was never abused). That kinda thing tends to put you off a brand!!
