And they did not arrive until Monday
Mr ParcelForce is currently looking into my claim.

They go on weight, not size, but with a max length+girth of 225cm, so large frames are a no-no, but smaller ones might just squeak it!

Couple of tips using myhermes - you can get away with declaring any item to be <1kg - I don't think they ever weigh your item - I've been doing this successfully for over a year now and had no problems. Also, size-wise pretty much anything you can fit on the back seat of an average size car they will take. The couriers use their own vehicles and this is the only limitation on size. So you can bend the size guidelines to some extent if you follow this principle. Only other thing I would say is ensure your stuff is heavily packaged as some of their drivers aren't the most delicate when it comes to handling  I have had one incident where I sold a golf club on eBay and the buyer caught the guy trying to shove it through the letter box (it was a driver   ) and the item was damaged as a result - put a claim in, used my ebay listing as proof of value etc - refund processed within a couple of weeks - much easier than doing the same through Royal Mail.
