What chain lube?

Run out of lube, need to go shopping (ont'web before the roads WC gets interesting later this afternoon).

Which lube to get?

Needs to go on commuter road bike (skinny tyres and used in all weather), and of course the Pace. Must not leave black residue up my legs, and must be able to tolerate the occassional 'oops forgot to lube the chain after torrential rain' moment.

Does the perfect put on and forget lube exist? i.e. you put it on every couple of weeks and it just works without turning your chain into a black mess?

I must point out I do not get on with Finish Line x country - just not keen.
Recommendations (and why) please and thank you

I've used finish line dry lube for years now on road and mountain. Any lube will attract a bit of dirt and go black but this is pretty good. I tend to put quit a lot on then run the chain through a rag to get rid of muck. As the name suggests it is pretty dry so not gloopy and sticky.

I find this stuff (designed for motorbikes) to fit the bill. Seems to last ages and the big can is more economical... 600 mls for under a tenner:

Ive gone through a few in the last 18 months and the best i tried was King of lubes Extreme (blue)

Goes on, wipes down for smooth running which ensues for 30 - 50 grotty gritty miles (and i mean the chain running /immersed in mud) and the barest of grumbles before a hosee and reapplication.

Lubes well is very clean and has only suffered on real hard/harsh conditions and even then only a slight grinding/squeak from the chain - compared to the finish line XC I was using before which gave up after 6 - 8 miles of the same conditions it's outstanding. If i was picky it could do wiht being a bit longer lasting but to be fair I'm talking of conditions where you cant see the chain for mud and winter grot.

Certainly when using the finish line i was carrying a bottle of lube with me and re oiling once or twice a ride.

I use Green Oil on all my chains (road and off-road) and Muc-Off to clean them with.

A careful application of Green Oil to each link will last me at least 2-3 weeks on the road bike (commuter) with just a wipe-down after each ride.

i've tried all sorts. finish line ceramic was good, but went very black, wet lubes attract too much grit. the park lube is good but expensive.
