What are the Best QR Skewers and why?

Re:

Suntour XC Pro?? compared to M900 (or the Campag)

And what Campag to get? What year type is best in terms of looks and function?

I've narrowed down my choices to:
Shimano M900 or M950
Campagnolo Record
If I find a spare £160 lying around I'm buying the Royce!
Want Skewers on my Dynatech MT4 which has Mavic 231 CD and Suntour XC Pro Hubs -

What do you think? Which ones do you prefer?
The Royce! :D

not too sure, I'd like an early/mid 90ies one - not sure how this period Campag look like - were there any MTB specific ones then?

Re:

Campy made a couple mountain bike groupos. I am sure the lever action feels very nice but they looked kind of chunky to me. If you look for record, make sure you buy ones that will fit whatever mtb rear wheel spacing you are needing. Would suck to buy a set and then realize they are 126 mm.

You can't go wrong with any of the 900/950 ones. There are even some NOS 900s around.

Sorry, when used as a bearing press? Are you installing cartridge bearings into hubs using a quick release versus using an actual press or even a socket and hammer approach?

This is retrobike, you've got to love the ingenuity ... 8)

WD :D

Re:

Ive always used an old, slightly longer rear QR as a press to hold the cassette tool in, freeing a hand up for the spanner and chain whip....

Re:

On yes, they come in useful for all sorts, have quite a clamping force. Of course for bearings it's not on its own. For cassettes and bottom bracket tool holders they can be great. And of course invaluable for setting up cup/cone hub bearings properly.

Re:

Cook bros ones are great - look supercool and seem to work well.
I have a set of x-lite camlocks on my Vit T that I like but I don't trust them very much :-)
I also have a set of Kingsberry ones but the circlip groove seems to have worn to the point that the circlip slips out (well pings out would be more accurate as I can attest to). Anyone know if they can be rescued?

For function - Shimano every time.

Mightily impressed by 90 second inner tube changes BTW.

Re:

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and blowing some cash on the Royce Talent QR Skewers.
But their website is asking:

These can be purchased either as a pair or Front or Rear individually.

When ordering we need the dropout widths for the Front Hub and the Rear Hub. We also need to know the measurement of the thickness of the FRAME DROPOUTS to enable us to select a spindle of the correct length. (as this can vary from around 5.5mm to 9mm).

Lord knows what this would be on my Dynatech?
Any advice measuring?
